I come to hypnotherapy through two paths: medicine and the world of the imagination.
I became a Registered Nurse in 1974, working in public health and psychiatry. I'm also the author of Inappropriate Behaviour (a work of fiction), have a degree in English, and taught writing for a number of years. While nursing in psychiatry, determined to explore healing outside the medical model, I came across the work of psychiatrist Milton Erickson who revolutionized the field of hypnotherapy. Severely paralyzed by polio at 17, a condition from which doctors said he would never recover, Dr. Erickson learned to move and walk again through becoming deeply absorbed in memories of his athletic boyhood. He called these "experiments in learning" - Erickson didn't know what formal hypnosis was yet. But he did know he had wonderful inner resources and a great imagination. My passion is to find places in the imagination where we thrive, and I bring my background as a nurse, writer and educator to my practice. Whatever the issue, whether it's eliminating a fear or phobia, giving up a bad habit, feeling greater confidence, or becoming healthier and more fit, I'm dedicated to providing a safe, confidential environment as I work with my clients to achieve their goals. I'm a member of both the International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association (IMDHA) and Association of Registered Clinical Hypnotherapists (ARCH Canada). |
